以下のコメントは Rounder から頂いた英文資料を時計の分針が文字盤を一周する程度の時間と、沢山の蕁麻疹と若干の発熱を伴いながら自分なりに翻訳したものです。根本的な間違い、勘違いはないものと思いますが、もし何処かに甚だしい間違いがございましたらお知らせ下さいますと幸いです｡私自身はプレス用の資料と、このセットから18曲を抜粋したサンプラー（非売品）でこの作品を体験しました。モートン自身の若干の語り、解説と共に演奏される各曲を聴いていますと、収録時の状況が瞼に浮かんでくる感じがして例え言葉は判らずともそこには一種の感動を覚えます。録音状態は驚くほどに良好でピアノの音のリアルさは収録時からの70年近い時の隔たりを充分に埋めてくれます。（以上はボックス導入時2005年某月某日に書きました）

2007年2月、新規にこのときの録音から厳選した一枚物のCDが新譜としてリリースされました。かつてRounderから頂いたプレス用のプロモ盤とは内容もジャケットの仕様も異なる盤ですが、ニュアンスはほぼ同じと判断して今回は特に試聴をせず下記のコメントを書きました。

8枚組CDボックス。ニューオリンズの偉大な作曲家、ピア
ニストという枠を超え、まさに歴史的な世界遺産とも言える
ジェリー・ロール・モートン。そのモートンの偉業をアラン・ロ
マックスが米国議会図書館へ収めるため、1938年にジャズ
の歴史の口述と平行して収録したモートンのソロ・ピアノ・ワ
ークス全128曲は結果としてアメリカのジャズ文化、黒人音
楽文化の大変に重要な遺産となりました。付属物にロマッ
クスの伝記、モートンのレア・フォトグラフを含む、80ページ
に及ぶ豪華ブックレット。拡張されたライナーノート及びア
ラン・ロマックス直筆の注釈を Adobe PDFファイルでも添
付。Disc1〜7がすべて1938年ロマックス収録による
